The local football team "DOXA" of the village of Kardamena was officially founded in 1980.However, this particular team existed much earlier. Particularly,in the summer of 1956 Theofilos Papailias, an immigrant to America, had come up with the idea for the residents of Kardamena to form a football team and organize a tournament which the rest football teams (official or unofficial) of the island, would take part in. The name given "DOXA" and its colours of black and white have come from Doxa Dramas, which, in that time, was one of the teams that played a leading part in the championsship of the First (A') National category. This particular idea found many others supporters and thus, each summer the people of Kardamena used to clean up a field of the village, set up two off handed crossbars and the football field was just ready. The football club was also officially founded in 1980 and its founding members were: Panagiotis Papailias, Panagiotis Kourzis, Iakovos Kourounis, Panagiotis Tallaros, George Georgiou,
Antonios Pizanias, Constantine Pizanias, John Pekris, Demetrios Aggelis, Emmanuel Hatziamallos, Athanasios Hrisopoulos, Nickolas Ieromnimon, Adamantios Diamandis, Nickolas V.Psiris,Stergios M.Psiris, Nickolas Trakossas, John Dinoris, Constantine Panagiotou, George Papademetriou, and Anastasios Kritikos.Panagiotis Kourzis was the first president of the team to be elected. Since then, the team has taken part in many matches of the A' and B' local category, remaining faithful to its traditions concerning the making talented footballers' mark. Moreover, it's still a special football entity among the other teams of Dodecanese and the fans' preferences
